PM971 SSD is the first BGA (ball grid array) solid state drive which is the smallest one even among all m.2 form factors. With this new SSD we can have it in smartphones, tablets & 2in1 laptops which will save more space inside each device while giving increase in performance.
With a new Photon controller tech as well with MLC V-NAND flash memory, Samsung produced such an awesome tiny package PM971 with capacities of 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. This BGA SSD PM971 will work on PCIe 3.0 & SATA 3.2 protocols, as well it can also use four PCIe lanes.
Although, they haven’t revealed the internal architecture design yet, they will unveil it soon. We can expect devices with this BGA SSD in last three months of 2016 or in the beginning of 2017 to be available in markets.
With this BGA solid state drive, smartphones can have more speed & performance in a tiny device. There won’t be no need to use the slower mobile memory or sd cards. Now smartphone users can enjoy the speed & reliability of SSD with this new innovation of Samsung.
It can improve battery life by 10% while reducing vertical height. Samsung claims it will have better & improved thermals. It uses 1.8v power rail instead of 3.3v to save battery life.
Sequential reads of speed up to 1500 MB/s & sequential writes of speed up to 600 MB/s, up to 190,000 IOPS random reads & up to 150,000 IOPS random writes can be achieved.
