Chrome: Faster and more battery friendly


Google claims that Chrome is now Faster and more battery friendly than it was in 2015 by showing a test in a video on youtube. Microsoft edge had done a test earlier that Chrome was battery hungry whereas Edge was more battery efficient.

So this time Google, instead of comparing it with edge browser compared it with it’s own browser, but with a old version of 2015 with it’s new version chrome browser of 2016.

Google measured this test with tools like speedometer. Conclusion of this test is Google Chrome is now 15% faster than as of 2015 in both windows desktop & android smartphone.

Chrome in 2016 also improved it’s battery life as compared to the 2015 version of Chrome. In this test below in video you can see Google did the test with two Microsoft Surface Books with same hardware configuration side by side. Chrome uses less battery for most visited sites now as per this test. As per the test in this video below, Chrome 46 (2015 version) took 8 hours & 27 minutes to finish the battery charge, where as Chrome 53 (2016 version) took 10 hours & 39 minutes to finish the battery charge. So it’s a 2 hours & 12 minutes extra battery charge savings in one go.

At last we all know how stable is latest version of Google Chrome. I personally do all the tasks using Google Chrome as it won’t hang. But one need to have good hardware like better processor, more RAM & SSD to get the most out of Chrome.

First BGA SSD PM971 by Samsung


PM971 SSD is the first BGA (ball grid array) solid state drive which is the smallest one even among all m.2 form factors. With this new SSD we can have it in smartphones, tablets & 2in1 laptops which will save more space inside each device while giving increase in performance.

With a new Photon controller tech as well with MLC V-NAND flash memory, Samsung produced such an awesome tiny package PM971 with capacities of 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB. This BGA SSD PM971 will work on PCIe 3.0 & SATA 3.2 protocols, as well it can also use four PCIe lanes.

Seagate unveiled world’s fastest SSD of speed 10 GBps


Seagate announced the world’s fastest NVMe SSD Drive which can achieve 10 GBps (Gigabytes per second) transfer speed. This broke fastest record of Solid State Drive by Samsung.

This SSD is based on non volatile memory express (NVMe) interface, so it will work on motherboard with NVMe support.

Seagate’s last fastest Solid State Drive was an 8-lane PCIe 4TB named Nytro XP6500 flash accelerator card which has a data transfer speed of 4GBps. So the new one got improvement of 6GBps speed compared to the old fastest one of Seagate.

This NVMe SSD is not yet available on market. As well as space size, pricing is not declared yet. Although Seagate will announce with full details soon at the upcoming Open Compute Project Summit 2016 in San Jose, California which will be held on 9th-10th March 2016.

Samsung starts shipping highest capacity 15TB SSD


Samsung started shipping it’s monster SSD which has a high data capacity of 15TB which is named as PM1633a. This monster SSD is unveiled for large enterprise storage systems. It uses 12GB/s serial attached SCSI (SAS) interface. It uses 3D V-NAND of Samsung, for this capacity in 2.5 inch for factor.

It have a read speed of 200,000 IOPS while write speed is 32,000 IOPS. Maximum sequential read & write will be 1.2 GBps.

15.36TB of data means one can hold 300 numbers of Blu-ray discs or 4,000 numbers of standard layer DVDs. This will help the businesses who need this much of storage & need fast access.

It’s cost will as be huge like it’s capacity. It’s a premium product for premium enterprises & data centers.

Why use SSD over HDD in your laptop or desktop?


Is you laptop or desktop running slow? Then it may not be the processor. We have done many upgrades to processor, but the HDD is same 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm. So even if you get the latest core i7 processor, you won’t get the best performance.

You may ask why? Then my answer will be, What if we make bed with 3 strong legs & 1 weak leg & there will be 10 people standing on it? Won’t it break? Same thing happens with your system. When you have a poor slow HDD & the best processor, you still get a system which is slower or like the the weaker bed for only one weak leg.

When we use the system, it reads & writes data from & to the HDD or hard disk drive. With HDD, it reads & writes super slow. While with SSD, it reads & writes ultra super fast.

HDD has more power consumption, while SSD has too low power consumption which helps to save battery life if used in laptops.

HDD have mechanical parts which leads to broken HDD at any time. SSD don’t have any mechanical parts which leads to longer life of SSD.

From price point of view SSD costs more than HDD. But if you see the lifespan of SSD vs HDD, then you get back with the SSD.

Transcend unveils 1TB MTS800 M.2 SSD


Transcend unveiled 1TB option for MTS800 M.2 SSD which is named as TS1TMTS800. It has ultra-thin, space saving & compact size of 80mm in M.2 form factor. It weighs 9 grams only. MLC NAND Flash memory technology is used for this one. But it has transfer speeds of up to 560MB/s read and 460MB/s write. This is well fit for modern ultrabooks, light & thin notebooks. SATA III 6Gb/s interface used by this M.2 SSD. It has support of DevSleep mode, which allows system to shut down the SATA interface completely and save some battery life. It comes with three-year limited warranty. Added with (The 3 years warranty does not apply when SSD Scope’s wear-out indicator shows 0% within 3 years.). It’s somewhat bad for us. They should not have added this thing. What if your Transcend SSD wear-out indicator shows 0%? You won’t get any warranty claim even within 3 years.


NVIDIA announced revenue of 1.4 billion in last quarter


NVIDIA announced record quarterly revenue of 1.4 billion dollar as well as a record full year revenue of 5.01 billion dollar, which is a rise of 12% & 7% revenue rise for quarterly & yearly respectively.

Reflex the first flexible smartphone in world developed by researchers


The research team of Queen’s University’s Human Media Lab developed the worlds first flexible, bendable smartphone called Reflex. This smartphone has a new way of physical interaction which is gained by bending it in different ways. If the smartphone is bent on right side, pages can be flipped through fingers as we do with real book pages. It is equipped with a LG Flexible OLED HD touch screen display, Android 4.4 KitKat OS. Behind the display, there are bend sensors which can detect the amount of force from bending to benefit from different input interaction.
